Android Kiosk Mode
The kiosk mode allows you to lock a tablet to a specific application, preventing users from navigating outside of that predefined application. This ensures a consistent user experience and avoids unwanted distractions.
While the kiosk mode is easily accessible on iOS devices through the Guided Access feature, there is no direct equivalent on Android devices. However, you can set up a limited user account that allows access to only a specific application. This will allow users to exit that application, but they won't be able to perform any other actions.
Here's how to proceed:
- Access the settings on your Android device. The location of this option may vary slightly depending on the model and Android version you're using. You can usually find this option under the "Users" or "Accounts and Backup" section.
- Once in the user settings, look for the "Add user" or "Add profile" option and tap on it.
- Next, select the "Restricted profile" option from the available choices.
- You will then see a list of installed applications on your tablet. Select only the application you want to present to your users. All other applications will not be visible for this restricted profile, except for a few system applications like the Play Store or Google, but their access will be disabled.
- Once you have selected the application, you can continue configuring the restricted profile by following any additional instructions displayed on the screen.
- To switch to the restricted profile, swipe down from the top of the screen (or from the top-right corner) to reveal the notification panel. Then, tap on the colorful round icon with a silhouette inside to bring up the list of available profiles.
- Select the restricted profile you created earlier, and voila! Your users now have access to a highly limited version of your tablet, where only the specific application you have chosen is available.
By setting up a limited user account in this way, you can provide a restricted and secure experience to your users on an Android device, limiting them to a single application.
