Kiosk Mode on iOS

Using an iPad as a touch kiosk for events, exhibitions, or in a retail store can be very useful. However, it is important to know how to lock your iPad to an application so that users do not deviate from its use.
Here's how to proceed on an iPad:
  • Go to the Settings of your iPad
  • Scroll down until you find the Accessibility section and tap on it.

  • Enable the Guided Access mode and set your passcode or use Touch ID, depending on your preference.
  • In this section, you will find several available options:
    • Guided Access: You can enable or disable this mode as per your convenience.
    • Passcode Settings: You can set a passcode or use Touch ID to access Guided Access mode.
    • Time Limit: You can choose whether you want your tablet to play a sound or speak a voice message when the Guided Access session ends. You can set this option later.
    • Accessibility Shortcut: You can choose to show or hide settings by triple-clicking the Home button when Guided Access mode is enabled.
  • Open the application you want to use and triple-click the Home button of your iPad.
  • A new menu will appear at the bottom of the screen, consisting of three parts:
    • Physical Button Options: You can choose to disable the sleep/wake and volume buttons, prevent screen rotation (portrait or landscape), and make the keyboard accessible or inaccessible.
    • Touch: If desired, you can lock the entire screen to prevent unintended touch (this can be useful, for example, if you have an automatic image gallery that does not require touch interaction).
    • Time Limit: Set a maximum duration for the Guided Access session here.

On the screen of your application, you can also draw areas to disable. These areas will no longer be touch-sensitive, which can be useful if you want to restrict certain parts of the application.

  • Once you have finished configuring your settings, tap on Resume at the top right of the screen.
  • To exit the Guided Access mode, triple-click the Home button, enter your passcode (or use Touch ID), and tap on End at the top left of the Guided Access settings screen.
By following these steps, you will be able to lock your iPad to a specific application and provide uninterrupted interactive experiences to users during your events, exhibitions, or in your retail store.
